Arlington Man Pleads Guilty in Drunk Driving Death

Aman Singh Lail pleaded guilty Thursday morning to involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in a January crash that killed an Alexandria man.

Lail, 24, a student in business administration at Northern Virginia Community College, was speeding east along Lee Highway in Arlington just after 2:00 a.m. on January 24 when his Jeep Wrangler crashed into Saqlain Chowdhury, also 24, who was driving his car through an intersection. Chowdhury was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he died.

In Arlington Circuit Court, Lail admitted his guilt under an agreement with prosecutors that he will be sentenced to 12 years or less in prison. Judge Louise M. DiMatteo said she would wait until pre-sentence investigations are completed to decide whether she accepts that deal.
